Pedro Garcia-Velasquez – Composer
Colombian composer born in 1984, Pedro Garcia-Velasquez begins with the study of the violin then studies composition at the Pontifical Javeriana University of Bogota in the class of Harold Vasquez-Castañeda where he obtained his composition diploma in 2006 before continuing his studies in France.
He first joined the class of Jean-Luc Hervé at the CRR de Boulogne-Billancourt then, in 2008, the class of Frédéric Durieux at the Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP). He also takes electro-acoustic lessons with Luis Naon, Tom Mays, Yan Maresz, Yann Geslin and Karim Haddad.
In 2008 he created, with Alphonse Cemin, Maxime Pascal, Juan-Pablo Carreño and Florent Derex, Le Balcon ensemble. Together they wanted to develop a new concept of concert, with a primordial attachment to the perception of the spectator. This project enabled him to work with other well-known artists such as Michaël Levinas, Claude Ledoux, Pierre Boulez and Kathinka Pasveer.
The meeting between the music of Pedro Garcia-Velasquez and the dance of Tatiana Julien is part of this desire to decompartmentalize the artistic categories.
